Manual note
November 2026
4 Nov 26
Session
Nishka was very confused about writing today, so I dedicated part of the writing to walking her through her second body paragraph step by step. It still feels a little disjointed, so we will review it together next class. · Julia
2 Nov 26
Session
Nishka's was engaged today, but she did struggle quite a bit with categorizing the different passages into the ways that they were built. She seemed a bit more comfortable when we looked over the keywords at the end, but she said thought she'd need more practice, so I thought it was of note. · Julia
October 2026
28 Oct 26
Session
Nishka has done a great job keeping up with the reading homework but has completed only certain sections of her writing homework. She did not finish her introduction, but she completed her first body paragraph, so we reviewed the different parts of the introduction. · Julia
26 Oct 26
Session
Nishka was engaged today. She often raised her hand to participate and, even when she was a little behind, her answers didn't require as much redirection as usual. · Julia
21 Oct 26
Session
Nishka wasn't as present for the latter half of the class as she was for the first half. I provided support when she felt lost while we were going over the graph comparison sentences. · Julia
19 Oct 26
Session
Nishka was engaged today, but struggled a bit to make exact connections between the story and what the questions were asking. I tried to ask consistent support questions. · Julia
14 Oct 26
Session
Nishka needed a little guidance when it came to vocabulary words today. I tried to give her example sentences and refer back to the text rather than tell her what the words meant. She was very confident while sharing her story. · Julia

7 Oct 26
Session
She was as engaged as usual today. I think she took lots of inspiration from the example in class, and that part of the metaphor discussion stuck with her, but I'm not sure how she would fare in finding one on her own without more practice. · Julia
5 Oct 26
Session
Nishka was engaged today. She was the only person to take a bathroom break, but she reengaged pretty quickly and asked to share her opinion as we were wrapping up our discussion. She will need the transition word bank for homework. I did not notice many transition words as she read her story. · Julia

28 Sep 26
Session
Nishka's writing still comes off a little stiff, but I think the last two lessons have helped her. She has moved from "she was scared" to "her heart was racing" with encouragement. · Julia
23 Sep 26
Session
Nishka is one of the students who started far ahead of everyone else in her writing because, after the first session, she didn't just write an outline, she wrote her whole story. I explained that this would be her first draft, and we would add more in a new, detailed draft over the next couple of sessions. · Julia
21 Sep 26
Session
Nishka's homework was a little shorter than everyone else's, and it made for a strong outline. Adding details will be slightly less difficult for her. · Julia
16 Sep 26
Session
Nishka came to a different conclusion from the expected one while we were reading, but supported the idea that Roz was brave with the textual evidence of her introducing herself to the otters. She finished writing very quickly, so I tried to encourage her to add details like character names or subjects. · Julia
14 Sep 26
Session
Nishka asked me to repeat a word once throughout the spelling test, but kept up well the rest of the time. She finished the grammar test with a 66%. She created a restaurant menu and shared it at the end of the class from the list of prompts. · Julia
